Hurricane-proof homes introduced to Pensacola residents

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — A new housing concept has come to the Pensacola area that can withstand hurricanes, fires and floods.

Out of the Box Building Systems representatives gave a tour of their model home at 1412 East Baars Street Wednesday evening.

The structure went up in just three days, and you would never know it’s different from its neighbors. The materials used to build it makes it resistant to fire, mold, mildew and termites. It’s also energy efficient. It can also withstand a Category 5 hurricane.

“What we’re doing is taking the house, we are packaging it in a shipping container and we send it out to the site to be constructed,” Out of the Box Investor Lisa Sharp said. “The house itself we include all cabinetry, doors, windows, light fixtures so it really is a house in a box.”

The model home is three bedrooms and two bathrooms and would cost $92,000. Those looking to buy have several options and get to choose what they want on the exterior and interior of the home.
