Athletes packed the Vernon gym from all over the area today to compete in the 4th Annual Girls vs. Gravity Weightlifting Meet.
There were 14 schools and over 160 registered lifters competing in the tournament, making it the biggest girls weightlifting meet in the area until the state championship.
The Yellowjackets try to host this before districts every year, so the competitors can get a feel for what it’s like to compete at a bigger venue.
“Just the overall size of this meet allows the girls to see and feel what it’s like to be in a bigger meet. We do the weigh in the same time as district. We start the meet at the same time of district. We try to simulate district in almost every way,” said Vernon Head Coach Lee Richards.
Districts will be held the week of January 14th.
Arnold came out on top with 51 points. Mosley placed second.
Arnold’s Emily Bennett was the best pound for pound lifter. Mosley’s Keyana Phillips was the best overall lifter with a 430 total.
