LYNN HAVEN, Fla. - It's a weekend kids look forward to every year. Champ Camp is back in Bay County for the 9th straight year.
Hundreds of local athletes are out at Mosley High School this weekend working on both their football skills and their life skills.
It brings along some of the best instructors in the world, including former NFL linebacker and Rutherford alum Will Witherspoon.
The camp is hosted by Graceville alum Anthony “Champ” Kelly, who is the Director of Pro Scouting for the Chicago Bears.
Nearly 250 football players are outside running basic drills, learning new routes, and working on technique.
The biggest part of champ camp is the off the field lessons they teach – they try to mold these young athletes so they will become good men when the helmet comes off.
Will Witherspoon says he loves coming back home to impact the kids here.
"It's a lot of fun,” he says, “I get to have fun with kids from my hometown and teach them things that I learned, and show them it can be done. There is a difference of what's out there, no matter what your situation. People don't know. Champ's whole situation - the way he grew up - it helped evolve him into the man he is today, too. That's what's great. I think all these coaches have great lessons for these kids to learn and what they can grow to become."
The camp will continue on Saturday morning.
