Grand Slam World Series kicks off with opening ceremonies

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The Grand Slam World Series of Baseball officially marked its return to Bay County on Sunday.

Opening ceremonies were held in Pier Park, kicking off session one, with three more sessions ahead in the coming weeks.

This is the 14th consecutive year the tournament has come to town.

One hundred twenty eight teams from eighteen different states are participating in session one, with players ranging in age from eight to fourteen.

Tournament CEO and owner Larry Thompson, Jr. says a tournament with this caliber of competition, breeds top notch talent.

"We did a little research here this past year. We've got right at 75 Major League Baseball players that have come through and played at our Grand Slam events over the past fourteen years. We have a lot of great talent come down for our World Series," said Thomspon.

Games for session one will begin on Monday morning and go throughout the week.
