GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Boston Red Sox made an interesting pick in round 31 of the MLB Draft: Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks.
Franks did play baseball in high school. He was rated as the No. 500 overall baseball prospect in the country by Perfect Game in the spring of 2016. He also was rated the No. 117 player in the state of Florida and the No. 41 right-handed pitcher nationally.
This isn’t the first time that Boston has gone for a Florida quarterback. The Red Sox selected Jeff Driskel in the 29th round in 2013.
Franks said in a Florida press release he wouldn’t be going anywhere though.
“I’m flattered that the Red Sox picked me this afternoon,” Franks said. “However, I’m living out my dream being the quarterback of the Florida Gators. We’re all working extremely hard this off-season and I cannot wait to hit the field this fall.”
