Edgewater Gymnastics finishes competition season strong

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – The Edgewater Gymnastics competition season has come to an end, but the team without a home gym finished the year extremely strong.

Ten gymnasts qualified for the regional competitions. Mikala Holmes, Payton West and Makenzie Ford all came back to Panama City as second place All-Around champions.

Now the girls will take a few months to train and regroup since the next competition takes place in November.

Now by that time, the gymnasts could have their home gym back. It’s still in the rebuilding process, but the building does have walls and a roof.

Edgewater Gymnastics owner Pam Kitchen said she was just so happy and proud to see her girls do so well.

“I’ve been coaching for 46 years and I would honestly say this team is the most resilient team I have ever coached. These kids, losing their homes, losing their gyms, losing their belongings as children that’s hard,” Kitchen said. “And lost their friends. A lot of their teammates immediately relocated. So kids that they spent every day with for three to four hours a day, the next day they were gone. That’s a big thing.”
