Chipola Baseball hosts successful Alumni Weekend

Chipola Baseball hosted its annual Alumni Weekend on Friday and Saturday.

Chipola hosted Wallace Community College-Dothan on Saturday, winning 4-2.

Following the game, the 2017 National Championship Ring Ceremony was held, awarding players from last year’s squad their rings.

The alumni home run derby and alumni softball game were both held the ceremony.

There were some recognizable faces in attendance, MLB All Star outfielder Jose Bautista and Marianna grad and current Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Jeff Mathis.

“For me, I met the right people. I came to the right place for me and my path. I put in a lot of hard work, and the right opportunities showed up. I haven’t looked back since, and I’m very appreciative of everything that happened while I was here,” said Bautista.

“Coach Johnson’s always run a top notch program, and, like I said last night, I’ve been fortunate to have a complex and a coach here that let’s me workout and do the things that I need to do to get ready. I’m just so appreciative of him for that,” said Mathis.
