After Two Big Losses, Rutherford Not Losing Confidence

The Rutherford Rams football team is coming off two straight losses, but finding no reason to lose confidence moving forward.

Sure, the Rams are 1-3 on the season and coming off big losses to both Mosley and Baker, but they have a chance to right the ship this week against Port St. Joe. That game will be played at Bozeman High School.

It’s easy to forget, but we’re only a third of the way into the season, and out of the 4A schools in our area (Rutherford, North Bay Haven, South Walton, Marianna, and Walton) none of them have more than two wins so far on the year.

Coach Loren Tillman says his team has the defense, the playbook, and the football smarts all down, but just hasn’t been completing the plays or the tackles when the opportunity is there. That will be their focus at practice this week.

Coach Tillman sounding confident Monday, saying everything they want is still right in front of them.

“We can still make the playoffs,” Coach Tillman says, “That was our goal coming in, and it’s still right there in front of us. We just need to win some ball games. Right now in 4A, nobody’s starting to pull away. Therefore with a 4A heavy schedule here at the end, we can still control our destiny to make it to the playoffs, so we just need to continue to work.”
