Virgin Islands for Veterans Collect Supplies for Hurricane Relief Efforts

A local non-profit teamed up with other veteran organizations in Bay County to offer support and resources to hurricane victims in the Virgin Islands.

Rebecca and John Rich started an organization called “Virgin Islands for Veterans” a few years ago after they moved to St. Thomas. But after the hurricanes swept through the Islands, their home was destroyed. John has stayed on the island to help with relief efforts and Rebekah has returned to Bay County working with her sister-in-law gathering supplies to help veterans on the island recover.

They are looking for items like reflective vests, safety goggles, and other work gear so that the people on the ground can help rebuild homes

“Whether it’s day to day survival or something they need to be able to find a career to be employed because they need to find a new job because a lot of jobs are non existent because we depend on tourism, and when you are wiped out by two category 5 hurricanes in two weeks, there’s not that many people who want to come visit your island,” said Rebekah Rich.

They are accepting donations seven days a week at the the VFW at 2136 Sherman Ave, Panama City, FL 32405.
