PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WIAT) -- Panama City Beach has always been a hot tourist community. After Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle, many are wondering if tourists in the area were in harm's way, or if the beloved area was forever changed by the category 4 storm.
In the video above, CBS 42 News captured footage of Panama City Beach from the scenic Highway 98 and Front Beach Road.
Visitors staying at the Holiday Inn, Harpoon Harry's, Pier Park and places nearby experienced a lighter part of the storm. Some signs were damaged and buildings in the area sustained minimal damage.
The area did lose some power, however most of it was restored last night.
The scene along Front Beach Road and the scenic Highway 98 is a far cry from the damage sustained in Panama City, nearly 15 miles away.
There, many residents have lost their homes and businesses. Many of Panama City Beach's first responders and resources are assisting residents in Panama City.
