Victim in Calhoun County fire identified

UPDATE: 3/25/19 5:55PM Family has identified the victim in an early Sunday morning fire as 82-year old Frances Backhoff

Her sister, who lived next door to her on Highway 71, says she woke up around 3:30AM Sunday and noticed what looked like flames coming from Backhoff’s home. 

She says by the time she rushed outside, the home was engulfed in flames. 

The State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating. 

One person was killed in a house fire early Sunday morning, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. 

The fire broke out at about 3:30 a.m. at a home on Highway 71 several miles north of Blountstown. A woman living in the home was killed, officials said. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
