UPDATE: Holmes County Plane Crash Leaves One Dead

News

A small aircraft went down Wednesday, near the Tri-County Airport in Bonifay.

Officials say longtime airport manager, Clearance Eddis Bowers, was piloting the Piper Cherokee plane when it crashed just before 5 PM.

When emergency personnel arrived, the aircraft was completely engulfed in flames.

After the fire was extinguished, investigators found bowers body.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been on sight today investigating the cause of the crash.

“Our job is to determine what happened, and more importantly why the accident happened hopefully to prevent that from happening again in the future,” said Adam Gerhardt, NTSB Air Safety Investigator.

Witnesses say bowers took the plane for a test flight and was gone for only a few minutes, when they found the plane crashed.
