Two men are dead in a brutal murder-suicide in Liberty County.
Michael Paul Burke, 36, of Hosford, was attacked and killed by Dustin Ronald Martin, 31, of Quincy, according to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. After the killing, Martin then shot and killed himself, deputies wrote.
Martin was at Burke’s Blueberry Trail home at about 9:30 p.m. to drop off a child he had in common with a woman who lived at Burke’s home, deputies wrote. Martin and Burke got into a fight and Martin stabbed Burke multiple times.
Burke retreated into his home and locked the doors. Martin went to his vehicle and got a handgun. Martin then forced his way into the home by breaking out a living room window, deputies wrote. Martin found Burke in the back of the home and shot him twice, deputies wrote.
Martin then went into the living room area of the home and shot himself in the head.
Investigators say two children were at the home at the time of the incident. Thankfully they were not hurt. Law enforcement tell News 13 the two children, ages two and eight, are safely with family members.
