Chipley police have charged 20-year-old Emmanuel Lockhart with attempted murder for allegedly shooting a restaurant owner seven times.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots at the Colonial Restaurant, 686 5th St., around 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

The owner, Jody Rhoda, was closing the restaurant when the gunman came in a backdoor and shot her several times, according to Crews.

The victim was taken to a Panama City hospital where she underwent surgery for her critical injuries.

The suspect was arrested not long after the shooting. Chief Kevin Crews said Sunday that investigators believed that Lockhart was recently fired from the restaurant and shot Rhoda in retaliation.

He is being held in the Washington County Jail.

Police said Rhoda is expected to make a full recovery.
