Shooting under investigation in Jackson County


JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. — Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting in the Compass Lake area of Jackson County Friday night

According to the Jackson County Sheriffs Office, William Wesley Bass was returning to his camper for the weekend at 220 Lakepoint Road in the Compass Lake area, to find a woman living inside

Authorities say as Bass approached the camper, the woman fired a gun at him twice through the front door and once through the side of the house. Bass was struck in the upper torso. Deputies and EMS responded to the scene.

The deputies were in a standoff with the suspect for about an hour before she surrendered. 44-year-old Stephanie Jean Bell was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility. She faces charges including attempted murder, armed burglary and ten counts of assault on law enforcement.

At last word, Bass was in critical condition. The case is still under investigation.
