Senator Nelson visited Gulf County Tuesday morning to talk about local concerns with officials.

One big issue discussed, the opioid epidemic.

In March, Senator Nelson announced a federal spending package and highlighted specific Florida projects.

Nelson helped secure 3.3 billion dollars to improve mental health, and opioid misuse in the state.

Another topic of discussion was healthcare.

Senator Nelson says he supports people talking to their state legislators and attempts to expand medicaid that is available in Florida.

He says he is aware people have differing opinions when it comes to each area of the budget.

“People generally have an attitude well you’re spending too much until it comes to their program,” said Nelson.

Senator Nelson continues his visit to the Panhandle after leaving Gulf County and made his way to Tyndall Air Force Base.
