The first modern school building in Panama City is now up for sale. A Panama City business man Aaron Rich and other residents aim to turn the building into an interactive children’s science center.
The Grammar School building is owned by First Presbyterian Church of Panama City and was severely damaged during Hurricane Michael. Rich said he hopes funds to purchase and renovate the property will come from insurance money from the city that needs to be used towards a community resource project along with other funding possibilities.
According to its real estate listing, the church is accepting offers and development proposals until may 31st. “If you think about what the vision for downtown will be in the future, we want to infuse life and families and create community resources downtown, the community needs an anchor project that is down this way and if you think about the science center being down this way it would create economic opportunities, educational opportunities, it would be a community resource,” said Rich.
The Presbyterian Church purchased the property on June 7th for 125 thousand dollars.
