Blue tarps have become a common sight in the Panhandle, but one veteran’s organization is hosting a special event in an effort to rebuild.
American Legion Post 392 hosted the ‘raise the roof’ benefit concert to raise funds to repair damage caused by Hurricane Michael.
The event was entirely driven by donations, with ten bands volunteering their time. Local businesses, like Harley Davidson, provided gift baskets to raffle off.
Organizers said they are grateful for the support and they would not be able to give back to veterans and others without it.
“The community supports us greatly. Without them, we couldn’t do what we do. That’s our main goal is to give back to our veterans and thank them for putting their lives on the line and risking their lives to give us the freedoms to do what we do each and day,” said Sons of the American Legion 2nd Vice Chair, Duffy Redmiles.
After fixing the roof, any money raised by the American Legion will go to helping fix other buildings downtown.
