Puppy Yoga Fundraiser Held in Santa Rosa Beach

SANTA ROSA BEACH Fla. - A "Paws and Poses" puppy yoga fundraiser in Santa Rosa Beach gave back to animals misplaced from Hurricane Michael. Yogi's were a little distracted while puppies ran around their downward dogs.

Maureen Fiacco a co-owner of Momentum Fitness explained why they decided to put on the event. "There was so many sad stories about puppies who have been misplaced with the hurricane, so we decided that we could help them out and combine a couple of our loves which is puppies and yoga and helping out the community."

Momentum fitness helped raise money for the Lucky Puppy Dog Rescue and Kennel. The organization takes in and cares for dogs on their farm. Many of their puppies are from unwanted pregnant dogs. Ever since Hurricane Michael, Amanda James a volunteer with the organization said they've received a lot more animals. "We have calls every day, our answering machines are full. There's a lot of dogs that have a huge need."

Lucky Puppy Dog Rescue and Kennel brought four puppies to the class. They were mixed breeds and about three months old. Being in the class and around all the people was great for the young pups. because their next step is obedience school where they may even become therapy dogs.

Tickets were sold to attend the class and the money raised will help fund transportation and medical bills for the animals. This was the second time Momentum Fitness hosted this type of event, and they have helped two animal charities. The Lucky Puppy Dog Rescue and Kennel and Quincy's Hope Canine Coalition.  "It feels good to have people behind us you know that support our mission, and want to help the dogs," said James.

So far the gym has raised more than $1000, and they plan to host another animal loving yoga event... But next time it will be with goats.
