A Sunday evening domestic dispute ended with a 7th Special Forces Group soldier arrested on an open count of murder after he allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife, Crestview police officers wrote in news release.

The Crestview Police Department responded around 6:42 p.m. to a 911 call reporting a gunshot victim at 1232 Northview Drive in the Countryview Estates neighborhood.

Derek McKinney, 32, was arrested on-scene, officers wrote. Responding officers found his wife, Natasha McKinney, 34, on the floor in a bedroom of the residence that they shared. Okaloosa County EMS responded minutes later and pronounced McKinney dead at the scene.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded, and upon receipt of a search warrant, assisted Crestview Police in investigating the scene of the shooting. The incident remains under investigation.
