A second person has been arrested for the January kidnapping of a former Juvenile Probation Officer in Bay County.
The Panama City Police report reveals the victim’s detailed recount of being driven across the county on January 2, 2017 while being beaten and robbed. The victim reported the crime to officers about a week later.
Christian Marcel Garner and his accomplice Michaelynn Maxwell kidnapped the victim at the Exxon Gas Station on Front Beach Road in Panama City Beach, according to the report. Officers said the suspects beat the victim in the face with a hammer while driving him to various businesses across the county and forcing him to use his credit card on items like laptops, alcohol, gas, and hotel rooms.
Police said they eventually dropped the victim back off at the gas station but threatened to kill him and his family if he didn’t continue to pay them off each month.
The victim resigned from his job with the Department of Juvenile Justice on January 6, 2017 and moved out of town. He wrote in his letter, “it is no longer safe for our family in Panama City.”
Garner was released from the Bay County Jail after posting a $146,000 dollar bond for kidnapping, robbery, and aggravated battery charges. Maxwell remains in jail on an $80,000 bond for similar charges.
