Police: He Set his Ex-Girlfriend’s Car on Fire and Then Walked Back into the Bar

News

Maybe he needed another drink.

Springfield Police say 52-year-old William Thomas Sapp was drinking at Coyotes Bar on Transmitter road Sunday night when he walked out into the bar’s parking lot.

He then poured gasoline on his ex-girlfriend’s 1992 Mercury convertible and set it on fire, police wrote in an arrest affidavit. Then, he walked back into the bar.

Witnesses inside the bar told officers that Sapp suddenly had a “strong odor” and that he made a “spontaneous utterance” that he had set the fire.

Sapp was arrested and charged with arson.
