After the Panama City Commission made some changes to the city’s public art ordinances, the first public mural is in the process of being completed in downtown Panama City.
A local artist is painting the mural at 316 Park Ave.
If you’re interested in getting a mural of your own, you must go through the city’s new mural program.
Panama City leaders teamed up with Destination Panama City to create a mural committee, and all murals must be approved by them through an application.
Applicants will be evaluated based on a number of qualifications, including: artist ability, intent of the mural, accessibility to the public and more.
Destination Panama City President, Jennifer Vigil, said the program will not only benefit the local artists, but also the entire city.
“It definitely adds a conversation piece, walk-ability, and brings interest to a downtown neighborhood,” she said.
The artist, Joyful, plans to finish the mural by Thursday or Friday of this week.
The public is invited to watch her in action everyday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or until she is done.
