Panama City Man is Charged after Leaving a Child who Drowned Unattended

Panama City, Fla. - Back in May, Deputies responded to a house in Panama City Beach about a possible drowning. The Bay County Sheriff's Office found an one year old child unresponsive in the family pool, and took the child to the emergency room.

The child passed away several days later. an investigation began into the death of the child, and it was discovered that 45 year old Charles Lee was taking care of the child at the time. During an initial interview, Lee told investigators he had been in the home when he realized he hadn’t seen the baby in a while and then found him in the pool.

When investigators spoke with witnesses, they learned that Lee had given a false statement. During the time the child went into the pool, Lee had actually been in the front yard with a15-year-old juvenile smoking marijuana. Bay County Sheriff's Office tracked down lee to a local business in Panama City.

According to the Bay County Sheriff's Office, Lee admitted to spending time outside of the home smoking marijuana, leaving the child alone, even though he knew the child had access to the pool if he desired. Charles Lee has been charged with manslaughter of a child.
