An Okaloosa County man is behind bars after committing grand theft auto.

Saturday morning, 24 year-old Slater Glen Allen Cole of Mary Ester, Florida stole a 2015 Hyundai from the owner of Whataburger on US highway 98 in Fort Walton Beach.

Authorities say the driver left her keys inside the vehicle. Soon after, the vehicle was stolen and crashed on Costa Verde court in Navarre.

Cole had driven the vehicle off the road, collided into two embankments, a concrete drain, trash cans and a mailbox before finally coming to a stop.

Cole was transferred to the hospital to be checked out, then transported to the jail.
