New Bay Medical Owner to Invest $47 Million to Rebuild the Hospital

Big changes coming to Bay Medical Sacred Heart Hospital.

Ardent Health Services and Ascension’s Sacred Heart Health System completed the sale of Ardent’s interest to Ascension. This deal makes Ascension’s Sacred Heart Health System the sole owner of the hospital.

“This community has been through a lot lately and we hope we are a strong part in investment back to this community both for today and the long haul as we go through recovery and prosperity and beyond,” said Sacred Heart Health System President and CEO Henry Stovall.

Ascension’s Sacred Heart Health System is hitting the ground running after becoming the new owner of Bay Medical.

“We are not going to drag our feet. We are off to a quick start,” said Stovall.

In January the hospital reopened at one fourth its original size with 75 inpatients beds. The company plans to invest $47 million in projects to rebuild facilities and services after the hurricane limited operations. The rebuilding will take place next year and create a facility that will add 185 private rooms to the existing hospital.

“It will be phased, but we are not going to let it drag out. This community deserved the best health care they can get and we believe we are that provider,” said Stovall.

The addition will include upgrades to information technology and create a new space for physician offices, laboratory, imaging, and pharmacy. The hospital campus will also undergo a major clean up effort. This will include the demolition of some buildings to free up space for additional parking and future growth. The planned growth also means more jobs are on the horizon.

“We intend to be a key employer in this community and that means growth and growth is good for everybody involved,” said Stovall.
