Sunday was the last day to experience the NAO Santa Maria while it was still docked at Saint Andrews Marina.
The replica ship was built to honor the 555th anniversary of Christopher Columbus sailing to America from Spain.
t is a full-size replica of the ship that’s fully functional and teaches guests about how Columbus’ crew lived and what tasks they were responsible for on the ship.
he crew traveled from Spain to Puerto Rico and then right here to Panama City. All in all the trip took around 29 days.
Members of the crew say the experience is like no other.
“I think it’s the feelings, no? First, it’s the feeling from the outside and then once you come onboard, the feelings, I don’t know, you’re feeling the history,” said Angel Rosa, the NAO Santa Maria Project Manager.
It is now sailing to Key West and will be on display there next weekend.
