The new year started with a homicide investigation for the Calhoun County Sheriffs Office.
The sheriffs office received a call on Monday in regards to an elderly man found tied up and injured in his home.
Sheriff Glenn Kimbrel identified the man as frank smith of Wrennie Moody Road South of Blountstown.
When law enforcement and EMS arrived, Smith was coherent and held some conversation with the first responders.
Kimbrel said it appeared Smith had been beaten.
He was airlifted to a hospital east of Calhoun County where he passed away from injuries sustained.
As the investigation continues authorities need help to find a suspect.
