Marianna Police arrest two fugitives from justice

News

Monday evening, the Marianna Police Department arrested two fugitives from justice out of Alabama and Mississippi.

35-year-old, Sara Butner and 45-year-old, Melvin Miles, were pulled over for a cracked windshield.

When the officer ran the drivers licenses of the driver, Butner, he determined she had a warrant from Mobile, Alabama for failure to appear on a homicide charge.

Miles was reported to be on parole for possession of precursor chemicals to manufacture methamphetamine.

Miles absconded his parole and a parole violation warrant was issued by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Both were taken into custody and booked into the Jackson County Correctional Facility.

“She has a driving with license suspended charge here and he has no charge here other than just being a fugitive from justice, both of them,” said Hayes Baggett, Marianna Police Chief. “So they’ll wait extradition back to their states.”

Chief Baggett said he is unsure why the pair were even in the area.
