Man Arrested after extensive search in Gulf County

WEWAHITCHKA, Fla. - Gulf County Sheriff's deputies with assistance from FWC, spent Monday morning searching for an armed and dangerous man in Wewahitchka. 

40 year-old David Anthony Hysmith, allegedly battered, threatened to shoot and held a victim against her will.   

Hysmith then forced the victim at gunpoint to drive him to a remote location in Wewa. He then exited the vehicle in an attempt to escape authorities. Gulf County sheriff's deputies searched an area of Highway 71 where they believed Hysmith ran off to.

Along with patrolling the woods, they also had help from BCSO-- using their helicopter to conduct an aerial search. 

Hysmith was caught and has been transported to the jail. He is charged with felony battery, aggravated assault with a firearm, false imprisonment and kidnapping.
