Lynn Haven Residents Light Up Dark Streets with Christmas Lights

Gulf Power said 60 to 70 percent of street lights in Bay County were damaged in the storm creating a monumental task for crews.

Now some residents are taking advantage of the darkness and creating a Christmas spectacle of lights, helping illuminate the neighborhood and raise the holiday spirit.

“I would like to think my homes a beacon of light for anyone who needs some Christmas cheer,” said Lynn Haven resident Lyle Burton.

His home is conveniently located on Pennsylvania Avenue across the street from Sheffield Park and has become an attraction due to his Christmas decorations.

“I would hope if someone sees mine it would inspire them to put a little up so every child or every big child could have a smile on their face for at least a little bit,” said Burton.

This year many areas are sparse Christmas lights. With dark streets and lots of traffic, police caution drivers to be safe on the road.

“We are seeing more accidents so we are asking the public to pay a little more attention,” said Panama City Police Sergeant Michael Streichert.
