Local Soul Food Festival Creator Passes Away

After years of giving to the community, one of the creators of the annual Soul Food Festival in Panama City has passed away.

71-year-old Christine Sims unexpectedly passed away Sunday from pneumonia.

Sims planned events for over 15 years in Panama City including talent shows, an NFL football camp, and the annual Soul Food Festival.

Her family is asking the community to  donate and help with funeral costs.

“Like I said, she doesn’t have any insurance, so I’m coming out of pocket to try and do this on my own, so I just need help to bury my mom,” her daughter, Janelle Parrish, said.

Sims passed away where she recently lived in Connecticut, and will  be returned to Panama City for her funeral.

The family said they have to raise at least $10,000 to cover the total cost.

Florida law requires a bank account for transfers.

1. Call the Innovations Federal Credit Union at (850) 233-4400

2. Tell them you want to donate to the Christine Sims Fund
