SANTA ROSA BEACH Fla. (WMBB) — [UPDATE: 10:40 P.M.] A suspect has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead in Sandestin.
The suspect, Storm Royal Thayer, 24, has been charged with second-degree murder.
Thayer has a lengthy criminal history to include burglary, grand theft, aggravated battery, and child abuse. He was released from prison in March after serving time for the child abuse charges.
[UPDATE: 10:14 P.M.] Walton County officials are still investigating a homicide in Sandestin.
Although there is a suspect in custody, investigators and deputies are still heavily combing through the scene.
“Tuesday morning, when I heard the name of the suspect, the first thing I said, is I said this back in 2018. I literally said in 2018, that this individual was going to kill somebody,” said Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson.
Around seven Tuesday morning, a resident living right here on Troon drive dialed 911 after discovering a woman in her mid to late ‘20s gravely injured.
“Deputies arrived on scene and immediately the subject, or the victim, in this case, was deceased,” said Adkinson.
After suffering multiple stab wounds, it was too late for life-saving measures.
“A suspect has been taken into custody at this point, and that’s pending investigation,” said Adkinson.
As Walton County tries to notify family members, they have been at the scene combing through evidence.
“No external threat to any other citizens at this point, there is no indication that anything happened outside of the home,” the sheriff said.
Adkinson said there is a history with this suspect that goes back to 2018.
“Not surprised, sometimes high-risk lifestyles can lead to these types of outcomes,” said Adkinson.
Adkinson wants residents and visitors to know there is no further threat. Charges are pending in this investigation as of Tuesday night around 10 p.m.
