UPDATE 3 P.M. PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) — Panama City police said Friday they had caught an armed robbery suspect.

“Officers with the Panama City Police Department were called to the Citgo gas station at 3000 W.
Highway 98 around 8 a.m. Friday. Employees said a masked male entered the business, pointed
a gun at employees, and demanded money,” Police wrote in a news release. “After cleaning out the cash register, the male suspect fled toward 17th Street.”

The agency said officers immediately swarmed the area, set up a perimeter, and in less than 15 minutes, officers stopped a suspect in the 1800 block of Wilmont Avenue

Nester Perez, 23, from Oxford, Ala. was in possession of the gun used in the armed robbery and a large amount of cash, police wrote.

“The cash roughly matched the amount taken from the register and clothing Perez was wearing was found stashed between the gas station and where Perez was taken into custody,” they added.

Perez was charged with armed robbery and grand theft.

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) — There is a large police presence in the St. Andrews community Friday morning after police said there was an armed robbery.

Police said the armed robbery happened around 8 a.m. at the Citgo gas station off of Highway 98 and Beck Avenue.

As of 8:15 a.m., officers were currently looking for the suspect around that area.
