In response to Hurricane Irma, the Florida Highway Patrol has called for a team of local troopers to go south.
Troopers from Jackson, Bay, and Escambia county will relieve officers from the Tampa area for a while.
Devastation caused by Irma has left state troopers from the southern part of the state without power, and some without homes.
“Well that’s the reason we got into this job to begin with, is to help the citizens in the state of Florida,” said Sergeant JD Johnson.
At this point in time, the deployment period is uncertain.
Lieutenant Eddie Elmore says they will work until their services are no longer needed.
