LCSO: 2 Dead and 1 Injured After Being Electrocuted on Liberty High School Baseball Field

News

A tragic scene in Liberty County as authorities report the deaths of 2 adults after they were electrocuted while working on the Liberty County High School baseball field.

Liberty County, like many places in the Panhandle, was damaged by Hurricane Michael.

The school field also suffered damage, which is why the coach and members of the baseball team organized a group clean up Sunday morning.

Authorities report about 25 to 30 people were out on the field working when the incident occurred.

The coach, Corey Crum, and his family, along with team members and their parents, were all cleaning it up when the incident happened shortly after noon Sunday.

“The coach, himself, was running a piece of equipment. It impacted a high power line and the piece of equipment he was running became electrified, he was electrocuted. A white female who was there tried to render assistance she was electrocuted. An actual member of the team came up to help. He was also electrified but he was knocked away from the incident,” said Liberty County Sheriff, Eddie Joe White.

One teen was injured and was transported to Shands hospital. At last check, police said he was in stable condition.

“Were a close community that became even closer after Hurricane Michael and it’s a tragedy, my heart goes out to everyone involved and affected by this incident,” said White.

Sheriff White said grief counselors will be on scene at the school on Monday and they will release more information as it becomes readily available.

UPDATE: The woman who was killed is Coach Crum’s wife, Shana. The teen who was injured in the incident is their son.
