Junior Citizens Police Academy Being Held in Bay County

PANAMA CITY, Fla. - For one week this summer, kids are getting the chance to see first hand what it is like to be a police officer. For the first time, the Panama City Police Department is holding a Junior Police Academy. The program is designed for kids ages twelve to seventeen who are interested in law enforcement.

It begins July 16th through July 20th from 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. at the Panama City Police Department. Officers say there's a few reasons they encourage kids to join the program.

"If they have an interest in the career and it may be later on down the road or even if they just want to see how their local police department works it gives them a realistic view and to get oriented with some of the officers who work here," said Lt. Chris Edmundson.
