JCSO: Suspect Hid in Trunk of Woman's Car Before Sexual Assault

Marianna, Fla. - A man hid in the trunk of his ex-girlfriend's car so that he could attack and sexually assault her, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. 

Deputies said the incident began Friday night when the victim was driving her car in Vernon. Suddenly, she heard a noise coming from her back seat and when she turned to see what it was she spotted Clay Dewitt Brunson, her ex-boyfriend climbing from the trunk into the back of her car, deputies wrote in a news release. 

Brunson was able to overpower the victim and drive the car at a high rate of speed to his home in Marianna. 

"Once at his residence he forced the victim into his bedroom where he repeatedly struck and sexually assaulted the victim throughout the night," deputies wrote. "Brunson eventually fell asleep around 5:00 a.m. giving the victim an opportunity to escape." 

The victim went to Jackson Hospital for medical assistance. Deputies added that her physical injuries that were consistent with her recollection of events.

Brunson was located and arrested Thursday and charged with sexual battery and false imprisonment. He also has warrants out of Washingon County for the same incident for kidnapping, burglary with battery and grand theft.
