Inmate accused of attacking Liberty prison guard

An inmate assaulted a correctional officer Wednesday morning at Liberty Correctional Institution in Bristol earlier this week.

“Inmate Nathan Diaz attacked a correctional officer at approximately 12:53 a.m. (Wednesday) Diaz was being counseled when he charged and assaulted the officer with a homemade weapon,” officials wrote in a news release. “The injured officer was examined by medical staff who noted a puncture wound to the head.”

Diaz will receive a disciplinary report for this assault, officials wrote adding that the incident is under investigation.
