With 8 teams of line crew personnel and engineers, employees with Gulf Power are on their way to Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria– leaving most of the territory without power.
80 people along with other support personnel left Saturday morning from Birmingham to help with restoration efforts.
The team will be setting poles, hanging wires and installing transformers to help restore power to the people of Puerto Rico.
“When those lights come on, it returns hope and a sense of normalcy to the residents there who have experienced those outages for whatever duration it may be,” said Alabama Power Engineer Supervisor, John Woody.
Teams are expected to stay in Puerto Rico through March 1st.
