Gulf Coast State College hosted a workshop aimed to help students prepare for the start of their careers.

The event was titled “What I wish I knew before I started.”

Allan Bense, chairman and CEO of Bense Enterprises, was the featured speaker.

Bense served in the Florida House of Representatives for eight years, including speaker of the house from 2004 to 2006.

He attended Gulf Coast State College before starting his career.

The event was geared towards students pursuing careers in business. Bense shared stories and emphasized the importance of maintaining one’s reputation.

“It’s America folks. You can do whatever you want to accomplish in this world. In this country. I always tell folks: if you’re honest, work hard, and provide a good service, you’ll make it,” Bense said to students.

He also spoke about failure, and said it is essential to success.
