Florida Elections Commission Responds to Complaint Filed in Municipal Election

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The Florida Elections commission has responded to a complaint filed in the 2018 municipal election against a candidate in the Panama City Beach race.
Panama City Beach city Councilman Hector Solis filed the elections complaint against ward-3 council Candidate Burnie Thompson in February. According to Solis, Thompson had been advertising for his campaign on his website, without reporting the donations to the Bay County supervisor of elections.
The Florida Elections Commission has responded saying they found the complaint to be legally insufficient. The response states that since the alleged ads were on Facebook and since Facebook is a free site and the posts had no monetary value, they were not contributions to his campaign that needed to be reported.
