Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Department Without Radio Communication

In Franklin County the volunteer fire department said they’ve gone seven weeks without working radios. Members claiming it all began when the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office got struck by lightning.

Since the incident they’ve been communicating through cell phones. The fire crew says this is an issue because it delays their response time and causes communication issues.

“The paging system is the first link in the emergency system here for the fire department, and then the radios get turned on after the paging system so we have communication with the dispatch center and law enforcement,” said Geroge Pruett, Eastpoint Fire Department.

Pruett said the fire department discussed the issue with county commissioners at Tuesday’s meeting.
