Florida Department of Corrections officials confirmed Friday morning that another disturbance took place among inmates in one of their facilities.

This time it was Gulf Correctional Institute in Wewahitchka. The facility was under heightened security Friday morning.

“In the event of a disturbance, several less-than-lethal approaches are available to resolve a given situation. In this case, less-than-lethal munition rounds were deployed,” DOC officials wrote in response to a question about shots fired at the facility. “There were no injuries to staff and one minor injury to an inmate reported.”

This comes on the heels of a major disturbance Wednesday night at Holmes Correctional Institute

Officials said the riot involved several hundred inmates housed in multiple dorms.

One inmate was  injured during the incident.

There are reports that this was part of a planned prison uprising to coincide with the anniversary of the September 1971 riot at the Attica Correctional Facility that left more than 40 people dead.
