Chipley Police looking for suspect in armed robbery

News

The Chipley Police Department is looking for a man, who entered the Handi Mart Convenience Store on Highway 77, Thursday evening.

The man who is described as a black male, roughly six feet tall, reportedly robbed the gas station at gun point.

“The subject left with an undisclosed amount of money, and a carton of cigarettes and a beer,” said Scott Thompson, Chipley police chief.

Shortly after Hurricane Michael, the Subway in Marianna was robbed by two individuals, also in traffic vests.

The Chipley Police Department is working with other agencies to see if this case is similar.

“At this point, anything’s possible. We’re exploring all avenues,” Chief Thompson said. “We’re working closely with the sheriff’s office here and with Marianna P.D. to kind of compare what we have and what they have to see if they’re related.”

Chief Thompson said this is an unusual crime for the area.

“We’ve not had many robberies, in town, in the past historically,” said Chief Thompson. “I believe we have had one there in the past but it’s been multiple years.”

Chief Thompson is asking for the communities help in locating the suspect.

“Just be vigilant and watch. If you see something suspicious or someone that matches the description please call 911 or the police department,” said Chief Thompson.

No one was injured during the robbery.
