Bay County Library gives out thousands of comic books on Free Comic Book Day

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Comic book movies dominate the silver screen nowadays and the comics these characters are in can be a great way to engage reluctant readers.

That’s why the Bay County Public Library partnered with Comic Emporium to participate in Free Comic Book Day.

Founded in 2002, the event is a way for people to explore comics they might not otherwise.

Comics of all kinds, not just superheroes, were given out to kids of all ages.

Kat Kan, who helped organize the event, says comics can be a great way for readers to be more involved and active while reading.

“Comics actually exercise both sides of your brain, because you’ve got the art and you’ve got the text and they work together. The art usually has the narration and you have to be able to read and interpret that art,” said Kan.

In all, the library had 11,000 comics across fifty 54 titles from big publishers, like ‘Marvel’ and ‘DC,’ to smaller publishers like ‘Valiant’ and ‘Image Comics’.
