Construction programs at two local high schools will see some improvements in the coming weeks, all thanks to Bay Building Industries Association.
Bay Building Industries presented the school board with a donation of nearly 9 thousand dollars worth of tools and materials to go to Arnold and Rutherford high school. They donated enough materials to make 25 new Buddy Benches at Rutherford. The hope is that students in the programs will gain job skills to work in the local construction industry that is in need of workers.
Superintendent Bill Husfelt said the partnership between local business and the schools is mutually beneficial.
“It’s a win-win. And having the buy-in of the business community to support this is really good because then the burden of financially supporting the program is not on the school district. The buy-in of the community and those business leaders is saying we think this is worth while we are putting our money where our mouth is,” said Bay District Superintendent Bill Husfelt.
The partnership has gone on for several years now. Husfelt hopes to expand to more area high schools in the future.
