Adam Putnam Addresses Florida Concealed Weapons Scandal

While speaking to News 13, Adam Putnam addressed a scandal involving him while he was the Florida Agriculture Commissioner.

Between February 2016 to May 2017, an employee within his office neglected to conduct background checks for concealed weapon permits on more than 300 people.

Putnam responded by saying, “as a result 291 individuals who should not have had a concealed weapons license obtained one. As soon as I learned of that, we led the investigation, put our Inspector General on it, revoked those licenses, and have put in place safeguards to make sure this never happens again.”

Putnam also said that even though licenses were approved, those individuals were unable to purchase a firearm because their criminal history would show up on a background check at time of purchase.

Many county sheriffs felt that because Putnam addressed and solved the situation he still deserves their endorsement.
