About 30 taken to area hospitals after semi hits bus in Jackson County

News

A semi truck plowed into a Jackson County school bus sending it into another bus Wednesday morning.

The wreck at U.S. 90 and Sage Brush Avenue at about 7 a.m. affected 66 people and more than 100 first responders and volunteers took dozens of students to area hospitals. At least three students were taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, officials said.

Troopers said Curtis Caroll Benefield, 64, of Cottondale was driving the semi-truck. It’s unclear why the wreck happened and charges in the case are pending, they added.

No fatalities have been reported as a result of the crash and although there are some serious injuries troopers say all of the injuries are not life-threatening.
