Who doesn’t love a chili cook-off? While some may think it’s still a little to hot outside for the dish– others are cooking it up for a good cause.
The American Legion Auxilary unit 356 in Lynn Haven held the 3rd annual chili cook off for Kibbles and Kovers. An animal welfare group that gives food and pet supplies to those in need, including the homeless population. At the cook off, people dropped off food donations for the animals, entered into raffles, and enjoyed live entertainment. Although, the main attraction was the chili.
Faye Hoppe a former chili champ, explained what you need for a good spicy chili. “Oh definitely jalapenos, chili powder, ground beef, and I use a marbled beef in my chilli.”
Each competitor paid a $5 entry fee, and chili lovers paid $4 a bowl to taste all the chili. The winner is decided by a vote.
The collected amount of money from the entry fee goes toward the prize for the first place winner. The proceeds from the raffle tickets and cost of the chili bowls is donated to Kibbles and Kovers.
there were a total of 9 entries into the competition.
The 2018 chili winner was once again Faye Hoppe.
